नई दिल्ली | [कोर्ट बुलेटिन] | सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भगोड़े शराबी कारोबारी विजय माल्या के खिलाफ अवमानना के मामले में सख्त रवैया अपनया है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भगोड़े शराबी कारोबारी माल्या को 4 महीने की कैद की सजा सुनाई गई है। साथ ही कोर्ट ने 2 हजार रुपये का जुर्माना भी लगाया है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने माल्या के खिलाफ यह कार्रवाई साल 2017 के केस में की है।
मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, माल्या के बार-बार गैर हाजिर रहने से कोर्ट काफी नाराज था। शीर्ष न्यायालय ने यह भी कहा है कि अगर समय पर जुर्माना राशि जमा नहीं की गई, तो माल्या को दो और महीने की कैद भुगतनी होगी। जस्टिस उदय उमेश ललित, जस्टिस एस रविंद्र भट्ट और जस्टिस पीएस नरसिम्हा की बेंच ने यह फैसला सुनाया है।
अदालत ने इस मामले में सजा की अवधि तय करने संबंधी अपना फैसला 10 मार्च को सुरक्षित रख लिया था और टिप्पणी की थी कि माल्या के खिलाफ सुनवाई में अब कोई प्रगति नहीं हो सकती। माल्या को अवमानना के लिए 2017 में दोषी ठहराया गया था।
शीर्ष अदालत ने 2017 के फैसले पर पुनर्विचार के लिए माल्या की ओर से दायर पुनर्विचार याचिका 2020 में खारिज कर दी थी। माल्या मार्च 2016 से ब्रिटेन में रह रहे हैं। 18 अप्रैल 2017 को स्कॉटलैंड यार्ड ने प्रत्यर्पण वारंट पर उन्हें जमानत दी थी।
क्या था मामला
आदेश का उल्लंघन करते हुए अपने बच्चों को 40 मिलियन डॉलर भेजने के बारे में कोर्ट से जानकारी छिपाने के चलते साल 2017 में शीर्ष न्यायालय ने माल्या को अवमानना का दोषी पाया था। इस दौरान कोर्ट ने माल्या को चार हफ्तों में ब्याज के साथ 40 मिलियन डॉलर चुकाने के आदेश दिए हैं। साथ ही अगर माल्या ऐसा करने में असफल रहे, तो उनकी संपत्तियों को अटैच किया जाएगा।
स्टेट बैंक ऑफ इंडिया के नेतृत्व वाले कंसोर्टियम की तरफ से याचिका दायर की गई थी। याचिका में कहा गया था कि माल्या ने ब्रिटिश कंपनी Diageo से प्राप्त 40 मिलियन डॉलर को अपने बच्चों को कथित तौर पर ट्रांसफर किए थे, जो न्यायिक आदेशों का उल्लंघन था। कोर्ट ने याचिका के आधार पर ही साल 2017 में फैसला सुनाया था।

The court had on March 10 reserved its order on fixing the quantum of sentence in the case and observed that there can be no progress in the trial against Mallya. Mallya was convicted in 2017 for contempt.
The apex court had dismissed the review petition filed by Mallya in 2020 for review of the 2017 verdict. Mallya has been living in the UK since March 2016. On 18 April 2017, Scotland Yard granted him bail on an extradition warrant.

The petition said that Mallya had allegedly transferred $40 million received from British company Diageo to his children, which was in violation of judicial orders. The court had given its verdict in the year 2017 on the basis of the petition itself.
