एक 27 साल के नवविवाहित दलित युवक बिल्लुपुरम नागराज की हैदराबाद के सरुरनगर राजमार्ग पर (4 मई 2022) सिर कूटकर हत्या कर दी गयी। स्कूटर पर बैठी उसकी नयी नवेली बीवी 25—वर्षीया सैय्यद अस्रीन सुलताना की कातर चीखें सुनकर भी कोई राहगीर मदद में नहीं आया। हत्यारे भाग गये। उसके सगे भाई सैय्यद मोबीन अहमद और जीजा मो. मसूद अहमद हैं। फिलवक्त दोनों हिरासत में हैं। इस जघन्य अंतर्धार्मिक हादसे पर लोकल सांसद मियां असदुद्दीन ओवैसी ने कहा : ”इस्लाम में कत्ल करना गुनाह है।” बस ! दलित—मुस्लिम निकाह पर कुछ भी नहीं बोले। राष्ट्रीय सियासी विकल्प के रोल में उभर रहे तेलंगाना के मुख्यमंत्री के. चन्द्रशेखर राव ने कहा : ”कानून अपना काम करेगा।” बड़ा उपकार कर दिया। हैदराबाद में विशाल मुस्लिम वोट बैंक जो है। दलित मसीहा बहन कुमारी सुश्री मायावती अविचलित रहीं। इसीलिये शायद कि उनके माल एवेन्यू (लखनऊ) आवास से घटनास्थल तेरह सौ किलोमीटर दूर है। स्थानीयता नहीं है।
युवा विधवा अस्रीन ने कहा: ”मैं मैके नहीं जाउंगी। अपनी दलित वृद्धा सास की सेवा में जीवन गुजारुंगी।” गांव में बाल्यावस्था से ही नागराज के पूरे परिवार को अस्रीन जानती थी। स्कूल में नागराज के वह साथ थी। तब दोनों को मजहब की क्रूरता का आभास नहीं हुआ था।
सड़क पर पड़े पति के शव पर रोती अस्रीन को याद आया किताबों का पैकेट मोटर साइकिल में ही रखा है। नागराज ने बीती शाम उसके प्रतियोगात्मक परीक्षाओं की तैयारी के लिये खरीदी थी। उसके मियां ने उसको बताया था कि वह सरकारी अफसर का शौहर बनना चाहता है। अभी वह स्टेट बैंक में कार्यरत है। अस्रीन अपने सगे भाई और जीजा के हाथों को पकड़ कर इल्तिजा करती रहीं : ”मुझे मार डालो। मैंने शादी कर ली है। शौहर नागराज को छोड़ दो।” मगर विगत माहभर रोजा रखने वाले, बीती शाम को ईद मनाने वाले, यह दोनों शैतान नहीं पसीजे। शायद यजीद भी लजा गया होगा!
इस युगल की शादी भी दिलचस्प है। अस्रीन ने आर्यसमाज मंदिर में हिन्दू धर्म अपनाया था। तब विवाह संस्कार हुआ। हालांकि नागराज कलमा पढ़ने के लिये तैयार था। प्रेम ऊपर है धर्म से। अस्रीन ने इसके लिये मना कर दिया था। अवश्यक नहीं समझा। सवाल था कि क्या एक छत तले इबादत और पूजा साथ—साथ नहीं हो सकते हैं ? मगर मुद्दा था कि नागराज दलित था। अब अस्रीन के जाहिल कुटुम्ब को कौन समझाये कि एक बार कलमा पढ़ते ही सभी इंसान समान हो जाते है। इस्लाम विश्व का महानतम समतामूलक धर्म है। भले ही मौलाना मोहम्मद हामिद मियां अंसारी अपने को बाकी अंसारियों से काफी ऊंचा तथा ऊपर समझते हो। वे सब जुलाहे हैं। दस साल तक ऐशो आराम से रहे उपराष्ट्रपति का मौज जो उठाया। अपने को निचले वर्ण का नहीं मानते। लगता है कि अब हिन्दुओं के जातिवादी कैंसर से भारतीय मुसलमान भी ग्रस्त हो गये। यदि नागराज विप्र वर्ण का होता तो? कलमा पढ़ लेता तो?
मगर पीड़ा होती है कि यह त्रासदी हैदराबाद जैसे इश्कप्रधान नगर में घटी। तेलुगुभाषियों के गौरवशाली इतिहास में हैदराबाद शृंगार के लिये जाना जाता है। मैं अरसे तक यही रहां हूं।
आज भले ही हैदराबाद दंगाग्रस्त हो गया हो, पर एक दौर था जब यह अलबेला शहर था। यह एक रिझावना रंगरूप का चमन रहा, जिसमें नफीस लखनऊ की जवानी है, तवारीखी दिल्ली की रवानी भी। देश का पांचवा नम्बरवाला यह शहर कैसे बना, यह एक रूमानी दास्तां है। उर्दू और तेलुगू के माने हुए कवि नवाबजादा मोहम्मद कुली कुतुबशाह का तैलंग तरूणी भाग्यवती से इश्क हो गया। मूसा नदी को घोड़े से पार कर वे अपनी महबूबा से मिलने जाते थे। रियासती गद्दी पर नवाब साहब के महल में आते ही भाग्यमती हैदरमहल बनी। प्रेम की निशानी में नये शहर का नाम भाग्यनगर, बाद में हैदराबाद रखा गया। चार मीनारवाले इस स्थान को इतिहासकार फरिश्ता ने हिन्दुस्तान का सुन्दरतम नगर कहा था।
तुलना में जहां मुम्बई और कलकत्ता फीके लगते हैं, हैदराबाद तेलंगाना का नखलिस्तान है। पड़ोस से सटे सिकन्दराबाद के साथ यह जुड़वां शहर एक मिसाल है। दोनों शहरों में फासला रहा नहीं, फिर भी दो विश्वविद्यालय, दो भाषाएं, दो सम्प्रदाय और दो औषधि प्रणालियां हैं। लिबास भी भिन्न है। एक में रंगीन अचकन और पायजामा है, तो दूसरे में धोती व कुर्ता। इस प्रथम भाषावार राज्य ने भाषा को वैमनस्य का कारण कभी नहीं बनाया। प्रथम आन्ध्र प्रदेश विधान सभा में छह भाषाएं मान्य थीं: उर्दू, हिन्दी, मराठी, कन्नड, अंग्रेजी और तेलुगू। इनके अलावा तमिल, मलयालम, पंजाबी, फारसी और तुर्की भी बोली जाती रही। कई दफ़ा मराठी साहित्य सम्मेलन हैदराबाद में सम्पन्न हुआ।
अपनी आंखों के सामने पति की हत्या पर अस्रीन ने अपनी शिकायत में राहगीरों को क्रूर उदासीनता और उपेक्षा पर ग्लानि तथा आक्रोश व्यक्त किया। तमाशबीन लोग मोबाइल से हत्या की फोटो और वीडियो बना रहे थे। तब दो मुस्तण्डे एक दुबले दलित को कूट रहे है। इन सबका पुरुषत्व और शौर्य कहां गया ? अगर कहीं युवती अस्रीन के बजाये आशा होती और पति बजाये नागराज के नईम खां होता तो ?
Billupuram Nagaraj, a 27-year-old newly married Dalit youth, was beheaded (4 May 2022) on the Sarurnagar Highway in Hyderabad. No passerby came to help even after hearing the screams of 25-year-old Syed Asreen Sultana, his newly married wife sitting on the scooter. The killers fled. His real brother Syed Mobin Ahmed and brother-in-law Mohd. Masood Ahmed. Both are currently in custody. On this heinous inter-religious incident, local MP Mian Asaduddin Owaisi said: “Killing is a crime in Islam.” That’s it! Did not say anything on Dalit-Muslim marriage. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said: “The law will take its own course.” He did a great favor. There is a huge Muslim vote bank in Hyderabad. Dalit messiah sister Kumari Ms. Mayawati remained unmoved. That is why it is probably that the place of incident is thirteen hundred kilometers away from his Mall Avenue (Lucknow) residence. Locality is not.
The young widow Asreen said: “I will not go to Mackay. I will spend my life in the service of my dalit old mother-in-law. She was with Nagraj in school. Then both of them did not realize the cruelty of religion.
Weeping over the dead body of her husband lying on the road, Asreen remembered that the packet of books was kept in the motorcycle itself. Nagraj had bought it last evening to prepare for his competitive exams. His mother had told him that he wanted to become the husband of a government officer. Presently he is working in State Bank. Asreen held onto the hands of her brother-in-law and brother-in-law, implicating: “Kill me. I’ve got married. Leave your husband Nagraj. Maybe Yazid would have been ashamed too!
The marriage of this couple is also interesting. Asreen converted to Hinduism in Aryasamaj temple. Then the marriage ceremony took place. Although Nagraj was ready to read the Kalma. Love is above religion. Asrin refused to do so. Didn’t feel necessary. The question was, can’t worship and worship co-exist under one roof? But the issue was that Nagraj was a Dalit. Now who should explain to Asreen’s goth family that once you read the Kalma, all human beings become equal. Islam is the greatest egalitarian religion in the world. Even though Maulana Mohammad Hamid Mian Ansari considers himself very high and above the rest of the Ansaris. They are all weavers. Enjoyed the Vice President who lived comfortably for ten years. Do not consider yourself to be of lower caste. It seems that now Indian Muslims have also suffered from the casteist cancer of Hindus. If Nagraj was of Vipra Varna? Would you read the kalma?
But it hurts that this tragedy happened in an love-oriented city like Hyderabad. Hyderabad is known for its adornment in the glorious history of Telugu speaking people. I have been here for a long time.
Hyderabad may have been rioted today, but there was a time when it was a beleaguered city. It was a flamboyant colour, in which Nafees is the youth of Lucknow, also the rawani of Tawarikhi Delhi. This is a romantic story of how the country’s number five city came to be. Nawabzada Mohammad Quli Qutbshah, a well-known Urdu and Telugu poet, fell in love with Tailang Taruni Bhagyavati. He used to cross the Musa river by horse and go to meet his beloved. Bhagyamati Haider Mahal was built as soon as the princely throne came to the palace of the Nawab Sahib. As a sign of love, the new city was named Bhagyanagar, later Hyderabad. This place with four minarets was called by the historian Farishta as the most beautiful city of India.
Where Mumbai and Calcutta seem pale in comparison, Hyderabad is an oasis of Telangana. This twin city with neighboring Secunderabad is an example. There is no distance between the two cities, yet there are two universities, two languages, two sects and two systems of medicine. The dress is also different. One has colorful achkan and pyjama, while the other has dhoti and kurta. This first language-wise state never made language a cause of enmity. Six languages were accepted in the first Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly: Urdu, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, English and Telugu. Apart from these, Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, Persian and Turkish were also spoken. Many times Marathi Sahitya Sammelan was held in Hyderabad.
In her complaint on the murder of her husband in front of her eyes, Asreen expressed her guilt and indignation at the cruel indifference and neglect to the passers-by. The spectators were making photos and videos of the murder from mobile. Then two mustaches are coding a lean Dalit. Where has all this masculinity and bravery gone? What if the girl had been Asha instead of Asreen and Naeem Khan instead of Nagraj as her husband?
