Remove Agneepath scheme or get it scrutinized in Parliament, Opposition MP told Defense Minister

New Delhi | [National Bulletin] | The opposition’s opposition to the Agneepath scheme does not appear to be diminishing. During the meeting with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, opposition MPs expressed concern over the Agneepath scheme implemented for recruitment in the army. The Defense Minister was holding a meeting of a Committee on Defense Affairs in Parliament on Monday. A total of 12 MPs, including 4 MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were present in this committee. Opposition MPs demanded that the scheme be dropped or sent to Parliament for scrutiny.

The MPs who attended the meeting included TMC’s Sudip Bandopadhyay, Saugata Roy, NCP’s Supriya Sule, Congress’s Rajni Patil, Shakti Singh Gohil and Manish Tewari, RJD’s AD Singh and BJP’s Ranjanben Bhatt and Rambhai Mokharia. During this, a detailed presentation prepared by the Ministry of Defense was shown in front of the members of the committee.

However, opposition MPs expressed their concerns regarding the Agneepath scheme during this period. He said that the reason behind so many applications for this scheme is unemployment in the country. On the other hand, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh described this meeting as very good.

 Japan’s example

According to sources, the opposition said that such a large number of applications have come for the Agneepath scheme because there is massive unemployment in the country. He also raised the question as to why the government was not taking measures to reduce unemployment. The opposition said that the army is very important for the country strategically and for defense.

If a person will leave after working in the army for 4 years and he will not get another job, then what is the guarantee that he will not play with the security of the country. According to sources, during this time an attempt was made to explain the loss of Agniveer by giving the example of the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
