Farooq was absconding for more than a year after scamming with more than two billion dollars (about Rs 159.4 billion). According to the report, for this he can be sentenced to 40,564 years in prison.

As soon as cryptocurrency came into the discussion, scams related to it also started and many users have become victims of them. You might be surprised to know how much punishment such scammers can get. A crypto scammer arrested in Turkey could be sentenced to over 40,000 years in prison. This cryptocurrency exchange founder named Farooq Fateh Ojan has been arrested in the past.

Millions of people had invested in cryptocurrencies

The number of people investing in the Thodex crypto exchange company is said to be close to seven lakhs. According to the report, due to the decline in Turkish currency, many citizens invested in crypto, which benefited Thodex. A few years after the launch, this company disappeared with all the money and it stopped all its crypto-related work, after which legal agencies started cracking down on it.

The company had stopped trading by making false claims

In the year 2021, Thodex suddenly stopped trading crypto and claimed that it had to stop operations for about five days due to an outside investment. Farooq then claimed that the company would have to stop trading completely and cited threats related to cyber attacks as the reason. They claimed that users’ funds would be safe, but not only were users taken away from their accounts, but their funds were also lost.

After the arrest, the hearing will now be held in Turkey

Turkish police took action and detained several employees of the company, but Farouk fled and hid in Albania. It was alleged that he ran away with two billion dollars from the funds of his investors and users. About a year later, he has been arrested from the city of Valor in Albania and his identity has been confirmed. The cases against him along with other Thodex employees will now be heard in Turkey.
