रेलवे के एक अधिकारी ने कहा, ‘हमने जरूरत के मुताबिक यूरिनल लगाने के लिए लोको पायलटों से सुझाव लेना शुरू कर दिया है। हम इस बात पर भी गौर कर रहे हैं कि यूरिनल को इंजन में लगाने के लिए क्या जरूरतें होंगी। फीडबैक के आधार पर हम तय करेंगे कि क्या यूरिनल को लगाया जा सकता है या नहीं।”
एक अन्य अधिकारी ने कहा, “सभी जोनल रेलवे ने पिछले हफ्ते मानक संचालन प्रक्रियाओं (एसओपी) के अनुसार, रेलवे बोर्ड (आरबी) के बाद पायलटों से फीडबैक लेना शुरू कर दिया है, सभी जोनों के मुख्य विद्युत लोकोमोटिव इंजीनियरों (सीईएलई) को आदेश जारी किए हैं।” नाम न जाहिर करने की शर्त पर अधिकारियों ने कहा कि महिला पायलटों ने इस खराब स्थिति की शिकायत की है।
वहीं लोको पायलट के बीच चर्चा है कि महिला लोको पायलट अपनी ड्यूटी करने से बचती हैं और असुविधा से बचने के लिए डेस्क जॉब पसंद करती हैं। “सर्दियों के दौरान समस्याएं अधिक होती हैं क्योंकि महिला पायलटों के पास कोई वॉशरूम उपलब्ध नहीं होता है और जब ट्रेन किसी स्टेशन पर पहुँचती है तो उन्हें अन्य कोचों में मौजूद वॉशरूम में जाने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ता है। ऐसे मुद्दों के डर से, महिला पायलट अत्यधिक सर्दियों के दौरान डेस्क जॉब करना पसंद करती हैं।”
ऑल इंडिया लोको रनिंग स्टाफ एसोसिएशन (AILRSA) के सदस्यों ने बताया कि उन्हें उम्मीद है कि रेलवे जल्द ही यूरिनल स्थापित करेगा। सेवानिवृत्त लोको पायलट और एआईएलआरएसए (उत्तरी रेलवे) के उपाध्यक्ष राम शरण ने कहा, “हमने इंजनों में वॉशरूम रखने पर जोर दिया है क्योंकि यह बुनियादी जरूरत है। रेलवे वर्तमान में इंजनों में यूरिनल स्थापित करने की खोज कर रहा है, और मुझे उम्मीद है कि वे जल्द ही स्थापित हो जाएंगे।”

Members of the All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA) said that they are hopeful that the railways will soon set up urinals. Ram Sharan, retired loco pilot and vice-president of AILRSA (Northern Railway), said, “We have insisted on having washrooms in locomotives as it is a basic requirement. Railways is currently exploring installing urinals in locomotives, and I am hopeful that they will soon be established.”
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on April 25, 2016, ordered the Railway Board to install toilets and air conditioners in all locomotives, which was agreed to by the Board. To reassure NHRC, Indian Railways had installed water closets in 97 locomotives as a pilot project and railway officials said that after completing the feedback process, Railways would finalize the design of one of these 97 water closets .
