कानपुर [उत्तर प्रदेश बुलेटिन] | डकैत से नेता बनीं फूलन देवी का वर्ष 1980 में अपहरण और उनके प्रेमी की हत्या के आरोपी छेदा सिंह का क्षय (टीबी) रोग से इटावा के सैफई इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ मेडिकल साइंस में मौत हो गई। छेदा सिंह को 1998 में भगोड़ा घोषित किया गया था और 5 जून, 2022 को औरैया जिले के भसौन गांव से गिरफ्तार किया गया था। उसके ऊपर 50 हजार का इनाम था और गिरफ्तारी के बाद उसे इटावा जेल भेज दिया गया था।

औरैया में गिरफ्तार होने पर उसने पुलिस को बताया था कि वह चित्रकूट में जानकी कुंड के पास एक ‘बाबा’ बनकर एक आश्रम में रह रहा था।

इटावा जेल के वरिष्ठ अधीक्षक राम धानी ने संवाददाताओं को बताया कि 27 जून को इटावा जेल में बंद करने के दौरान छेदा सिंह की तबीयत बिगड़ गई थी जिसके बाद उसे सैफई चिकित्सा सुविधा में स्थानांतरित कर दिया गया था।

औरैया के पूर्व पुलिस अधीक्षक अभिषेक वर्मा ने कहा कि छेदा सिंह 20 साल की उम्र में चंबल के बीहड़ों में डकैतों के लालाराम गिरोह में शामिल हो गया था।

वह लालाराम और उसके भाई सीताराम के नेतृत्व वाले गिरोह के सबसे सक्रिय सदस्यों में से एक था। लालाराम ने अपने प्रतिद्वंद्वी गिरोह के नेता विक्रम मल्लाह को मार दिया था और मल्लाह के गिरोह की सदस्य फूलन देवी का 1980 में अपहरण कर लिया था। उनके साथ सामूहिक बलात्कार भी किया गया था। बाद में फूलन देवी ने 14 फरवरी 1981 को बेहमई हत्याकांड को अंजाम देकर 21 लोगों की हत्या कर दी थी और अपने साथ हुए अत्याचार का बदला लिया था।”

छेदा सिंह और अन्य ने जून 1984 में औरैया जिले के अस्ता में बेहमई हत्याओं का बदला लेने के लिए 16 लोगों को मार दिया था।

पुलिस अधिकारी ने कहा, “वह बहुत शातिर था। उसने दस्तावेजों में खुद को मृत दिखाया था और पूरी संपत्ति अपने भाई अजय सिंह को दे दी थी।”

वह हत्या, डकैती, अपहरण और जबरन वसूली के 20 से अधिक मामलों में वांछित था। छेदा को 1998 में अदालत ने भगोड़ा घोषित कर दिया था।

गिरफ्तारी के समय पुलिस ने उसके पास से ब्रज मोहन के नाम से बने एक पैन कार्ड, एक आधार कार्ड और अन्य दस्तावेजों सहित फर्जी आईडी बरामद की थी। हालांकि पुलिस ने स्थानीय लोगों की मदद से उसकी असली पहचान का पता लगाया था।

इस बीच, फूलन देवी बेहमई हत्याकांड के बाद 2 साल तक गिरफ्तारी से बचती रही थी और बाद में उन्होंने और उनके गिरोह के कुछ सदस्यों ने 1983 में आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया था। फूलन देवी पर कई हत्याओं, लूट, आगजनी और फिरौती के लिए अपहरण सहित 48 अपराधों का आरोप लगा था। फूलन देवी ने अगले 11 साल जेल में बिताए थे।

1994 में, समाजवादी पार्टी के मुलायम सिंह यादव के नेतृत्व वाली राज्य सरकार ने फूलन देवी के खिलाफ सभी आरोप वापस ले लिए थे और उन्हें बाद में रिहा कर दिया गया था।

उन्हें 1996 में मिर्जापुर से लोकसभा चुनाव में सपा द्वारा मैदान में उतारा गया था। वह 1999 में फिर से सांसद चुनी गईं थीं।

वर्ष 2001 में शेर सिंह राणा ने नई दिल्ली में सांसद फूलन देवी के आधिकारिक बंगले के पास उनकी गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी थी।

Chheda Singh was declared a fugitive in 1998 and was arrested from Bhasaun village in Auraiya district on June 5, 2022. He had a reward of 50 thousand on him and after his arrest he was sent to Etawah jail.

On being arrested in Auraiya, he told the police that he was living in an ashram near Janaki Kund in Chitrakoot as a ‘Baba’.

Etawah Jail Senior Superintendent Ram Dhani told reporters that Chheda Singh’s health deteriorated during his detention in Etawah Jail on June 27 following which he was shifted to Saifai Medical Facility.

Former Auraiya Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma said that Chheda Singh had joined the Lalaram gang of dacoits in the ravines of Chambal at the age of 20.

He was one of the most active members of the gang led by Lalaram and his brother Sitaram. Lalaram killed Vikram Mallah, the leader of his rival gang and kidnapped Mallah’s gang member Phoolan Devi in ​​1980. He was also gang raped. Later on February 14, 1981, Phoolan Devi killed 21 people by carrying out the Behmai massacre and avenged the atrocities committed against her.

Chheda Singh and others killed 16 people to avenge the Behmai killings at Asta in Auraiya district in June 1984.

“He was very smart. He had shown himself dead in the documents and gave the entire property to his brother Ajay Singh,” the police officer said.

He was wanted in more than 20 cases of murder, dacoity, kidnapping and extortion. Chheda was declared a fugitive by the court in 1998.

At the time of his arrest, the police had recovered a fake ID including a PAN card in the name of Braj Mohan, an Aadhaar card and other documents from him. However, with the help of local people, the police found out his real identity.

Meanwhile, Phoolan Devi had evaded arrest for two years after the Behmai murder case and later she and some of her gang members surrendered in 1983. Phoolan Devi was accused of 48 offenses including multiple murders, robbery, arson and kidnapping for ransom. Phoolan Devi spent the next 11 years in jail.

In 1994, the Samajwadi Party’s Mulayam Singh Yadav-led state government withdrew all charges against Phoolan Devi and she was later released.

He was fielded by SP in 1996 Lok Sabha election from Mirzapur. She was re-elected as an MP in 1999.

In 2001, Sher Singh Rana shot and killed MP Phoolan Devi near his official bungalow in New Delhi.
