पहले मुकाबले में मेंस सिंगल वर्ग में विश्व के नंबर नौ शटलर लक्ष्य सेन (Lakshya sen) और विश्व के नंबर चार खिलाड़ी एंथनी सिनिसुका गिनटिंग (Anthony GINTING) को मात दी जबकि दूसरे मैच में मेंस डबल वर्ग में सात्विकसाईराज रंकीरेड्डी और चिराग शेट्टी (Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty) की भारतीय जोड़ी ने इंडोनेशिया के केविन संजाया और मोहम्मद अहसान (Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo) की जोड़ी को पराजित किया। वहीं, तीसरे मैच में किदांबी श्रीकांत ने जोनाथन क्रिस्टि को पीटकर भारत को पहली बार थॉमस कप का चैंपियन बना दिया।

 

 

मेंस सिंगल वर्ग में गिनटिंग ने लक्ष्य सेन के खिलाफ धमाकेदार शुरुआत करते हुए पहला गेम 21-8 से जीत लिया, लेकिन दूसरे गेम में लक्ष्य ने भी जोरदार वापसी की और 21-17 से दूसरा गेम जीतकर 2-2 से बराबरी कर ली। तीसरे और निर्णायक गेम में दोनों के बीच जबरदस्त टक्कर देखने को मिली। दोनों खिलाड़ी एक समय 12-12 की बराबरी पर थे। लेकिन इसके बाद लक्ष्य ने 4 अंकों की बढ़त बना ली और स्कोर को 18-14 तक पहुंचा दिया और फिर 21-17 से तीसरा और निर्णायक गेम जीतकर मुकाबले में भारत को 1-0 की बढ़त दिला दी। लक्ष्य ने एक घंटे और 5 मिनट में गिनटिंग को मात दी।

 

भारत इस सीजन में सिर्फ चीनी ताइपे के खिलाफ एक मैच हारा, जबकि 14-बार का चैंपियन इंडोनेशिया एक भी मैच नहीं हारा और नॉकआउट मुकाबलों में चीन व जापान को हराकर फाइनल में पहुंचा था।

 

दूसरे मुकाबले में मेंस डबल वर्ग में सात्विकसाईराज रंकीरेड्डी और चिराग शेट्टी (Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty) की भारतीय जोड़ी का सामना इंडोनेशिया के केविन संजाया और मोहम्मद अहसान (Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo) की जोड़ी से हुआ। भारतीय जोड़ी को पहले गेम में 18 मिनट में ही 18-21 से हार का सामना करना पड़ा।

 

बैंकॉक के इम्पैक्ट एरिना में जारी इस मुकाबले के दूसरे गेम में भारतीय जोड़ी ने वापसी की और एक समय स्कोर को 11-6 तक पहुंचा दिया। हालांकि दोनों जोड़ी के बीच दूसरा गेम एक समय 21-21 से बराबरी पर आ गया था। और इसके बाद रेंकीरेड्डी और चिराग शेट्टी की जोड़ी ने 23-21 से दूसरा गेम जीत लिया।

 

तीसरे और निर्णायक गेम में रेंकीरेड्डी और चिराग शेट्टी की जोड़ी ने एक बार फिर से 11-9 की बढ़त बना ली। लेकिन अगले कुछ ही देर में इंडोनेशियाई जोड़ी ने स्कोर को 11-11 से बराबरी पर ला दिया। इसके बाद एक बार दोनों जोड़ी 17-17 की बराबरी पर थी। भारतीय जोड़ी ने फिर 20-18 की बढ़त बना ली और एक घंटे तथा 13 मिनट में 21-19 से मुकाबला जीत लिया। रेंकीरेड्डी और चिराग शेट्टी की जोड़ी की जीत के साथ ही भारतीय टीम ने मुकाबले में 2-0 की बढ़त बना ली।

 

 

तीसरा मैच मेंस सिंगल वर्ग में किदांबी श्रीकांत और जोनाथन क्रिस्टि के बीच खेला गया। पहले गेम में श्रीकांत ने जोनाथन के खिलाफ 14-10 की बढ़त बना ली। श्रीकांत ने यहां से फिर 19-15 की बढ़त लेते हुए पहले गेम को 21-15 से अपने नाम कर लिया।

 

 

दूसरे गेम में भी श्रीकांत 12-8 से आगे थे। इसके बाद दोनों खिलाड़ी एक समय 21-21 की बराबरी पर आ गए। श्रीकांत ने फिर 43 मिनट में ही 23-21 से लगातार दूसरा गेत जीतकर इतिहास रच दिया और भारत को लगातार तीसरे मैच में 3-0 से जीत दिला दी।
