इस्लामी जम्हूरिया की दो तरुणिओं समीना बेग (पाकिस्तान) और अफसानेह हेसामिफर्द (ईरान) ने विश्व में सबसे ऊंची चोटी (एवरेस्ट के बाद) काराकोरम पर्वत श्रंखला पर फतह हासिल कर, जुमे (22 जुलाई 2022) की नमाज अता की थी, तो हर खातून को नाज हुआ होगा। सिर्फ सरहद पर ही नहीं, ऊंचाई पर भी पहुंच गयी। यही इन दोनों युवतियों ने बता दिया कि सब मुमकिन है। बस इच्छा शक्ति होनी चाहिये। सुन्नी समीना और शिया अफसानेह आज स्त्रीशौर्य के यश की वाहिनी बन गयीं हैं।
मगर फिर याद आती है मांड्या (कर्नाटक) की छात्रा मुस्कान खान, जिसने पढ़ाई रोक दी थी। क्योंकि उसे कॉलेज के नियमानुसार हिजाब नहीं पहनने दिया गया था। बजाये जीवन की ऊंचाई के मुस्कान खान अदालत (हाईकोर्ट—बंगलूर और उच्चतम—दिल्ली) तक चली गईं। मुसलमान उद्वेलित हो गये। क्या होना चाहिये था? शायद ईस्लामी मुल्कों की तरुणियां ज्यादा मुक्त हैं। मगर सेक्युलर भारत में क्यों नहीं हैं ? हिन्दुस्तान में कौमियत मजहब पर आधारित नहीं है। फिर भी हिजाब पर बवाल ?
संयोग है कि यह दोनों एशियायी युवतियां सरलता से माउन्ट एवरेस्ट फतह कर चुकी हैं। काराकोरम पर्वत श्रंखला निहायत खतरनाक बतायी जाती है। पर वाह! समीना और अफसानेह! अल्लाह का शुक्र है। कामयाबी हासिल हो गयी। गत शुक्रवार पाकिस्तानी तथा ईरानी महिलाओं के लिए फख्र का दिन था।
मुझे याद है जब दिसम्बर 1988 को बेनजीर भुट्टो इस्लामी पाकिस्तान की वजीरे आजम चुनी गयीं थीं। वे अपने वालिद जुल्फीकार अली भुट्टो के साथ दो दशक हुए पूर्वी पाकिस्तान हारने (2 जुलाई 1972) के बाद संधि—वार्ता हेतु शिमला आई थीं। तब वे महज अट्ठारह साल की कमसिन थीं। एक दिलफेंक ने अखबारों में खत लिख दिया था कि बेनजीर को दिल्ली में राजदूत नियुक्त कर दें। भारत—पाक रिश्ते बेहतरीन हो जायेंगे। मगर कट्टर इस्लामियों ने बेनजीर को मार डाला।
पाकिस्तान को गौर करना होगा कि कैसे पांच भारतीय लड़कियां दुनिया के सभी सबसे ऊंचे शिखिर एवरेस्ट को फतह कर चुकी हैं। इनमें अरुणिमा सिन्हा भी हैं, जो दुनिया के छह पर्वत शिखरों को जीत चुकीं हैं। एवरेस्ट भी। हालांकि इस वालीबाल खिलाड़ी का पैर काट दिया गया था। वह भी एक त्रासदभरी दास्तां हैं।
यूपी के अकबरपुर (फैजाबाद, अब अंबेडकरनगर) की वासी अरुणिमा सिन्हा केन्द्रीय औद्योगिक सुरक्षा बल (सीआईएसएफ) के इन्टर्व्यू के लिये जा रहीं थीं। नयी दिल्ली—पद्मावती एक्सप्रेस रेल से (2011)। बरेली के पास कुछ चोर लोग उनका पर्स छीन रहे थे। जब अरुणिमा भिड़ी तो उन चोरों ने उसे पटरी पर फेंक दिया। सामने से एक रेल आ रही थी। उसका पैर कट गया। पर वह निराश नहीं हुयीं।
अंतत: एवरेस्ट पर चढ़ी। जीवनभर उसके लिये सब कुछ संघर्ष का पर्याय रहा। भारतीय रेल ने उसे नौकरी दी। अरुणिमा को प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने पद्मश्री से नवाजा भी।
अन्य चार महिलाएं जो सफल पर्वतारोही थी : प्रथम बछेन्द्री पाल, जो 1984 में एवरेस्ट शिखर की विजेता रही। इस पद्मश्री विजेता की आत्मकथा ”शिखर तक मेरी यात्रा” हर युवती के लिये अनिवार्यत: पठनीय है। अगली वीरबाला है तेरह—वर्षीया तेलुगुभाषी बालिका मालवथ पूर्णिमा जो एवरेस्ट पर सवार हुयी। फिर आयी कु. संतोष यादव और प्रेमलता अग्रवाल। यह दोनों एवरेस्ट पर चढ़ चुकीं हैं।
मगर भारत के लिये पर्वतारोहण के इतिहास में यादगार घटना थी 29 मई 1953 की है। जब शेरपा तेनसिंग नोर्गी जो प्रथम मानव बने जिन्होंने एवरेस्ट शिखर पर कदम रखकर हाथ बढ़ा कर नीचे खड़े न्यूजीलैण्ड के सर एडमंड हिलेरी को ऊपर खींचा। विश्व के सबसे ऊंचे स्थल पर पहुंचाया था। मुझे यह दिन भली भांति याद है क्योंकि 29 मई 1953 को मेरा जन्मदिन था।
अब लौटे ईरान और पाकिस्तानी पर्वतारोहियों पर
समीना और अफसानेह पर। मानव समाज आश्वस्त हो गया होगा कि इन दो युवतियों ने दिखा दिया की दकियानुसी जन लड़कियों के पैर नहीं बांध सकते। जितने भी मजहबी बहाने ढूंढ लें। अंतत: महिला को उस मंजिल तक जाना ही है जिसके आगे राह नहीं।

Samina Baig (Pakistan) and Afsaneh Hesamifard (Iran), two young women of Islamic Jamhuria, having conquered the Karakoram mountain range, the highest peak in the world (after Everest), offered Friday prayers (22 July 2022), then every Khatoon Would have been proud. Not only on the border, but also at the height. This is what these two girls told that everything is possible. You just have to have the will power. Today Sunni Samina and Shia Afsaneh have become the corps of fame of women’s bravery.
But then I remember Muskan Khan, a student of Mandya (Karnataka), who had stopped studies. Because she was not allowed to wear hijab as per the rules of the college. Instead of the height of life, Muskan Khan went to the court (High Court-Bangalore and Supreme-Delhi). The Muslims were agitated. What should have happened? Perhaps the youth of Islamic countries are more liberated. But why is there no secular India? Communism in India is not based on religion. Still uproar over the hijab?
Coincidentally, both these Asian girls have easily scaled Mount Everest. The Karakoram mountain range is said to be extremely dangerous. But wow! Sameena and Afsaneh! thank God. Success achieved. Last Friday was a day of pride for Pakistani and Iranian women.
I remember when Benazir Bhutto was elected Wazire Azam of Islamic Pakistan in December 1988. She came to Shimla for treaty talks with her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, after two decades of losing East Pakistan (2 July 1972). Then she was only eighteen years old. A Dilfenk had written a letter in the newspapers to appoint Benazir as ambassador to Delhi. Indo-Pak relations will get better. But radical Islamists killed Benazir.
Pakistan has to look at how five Indian girls have scaled all the highest summits in the world, Everest. Among them is Arunima Sinha, who has conquered six mountain peaks of the world. Everest too. However, the leg of this volleyball player was amputated. That too is a tragic story.
Arunima Sinha, a resident of Akbarpur (Faizabad, now Ambedkarnagar) in UP, was going for an interview of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). New Delhi-Padmavati Express by Rail (2011). Some thieves were snatching his purse near Bareilly. When Arunima clashed, those thieves threw her on the track. A train was coming from the front. His leg was cut. But she was not disappointed.
Finally climbed Everest. Everything for him throughout his life was synonymous with struggle. Indian Railways gave him a job. Arunima was also awarded the Padma Shri by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The other four women who were successful climbers: Pratham Bachendri Pal, who was the winner of Everest summit in 1984. The autobiography of this Padma Shri winner “My journey to the summit” is a must read for every girl. Next is Veerabala, a thirteen-year-old Telugu-speaking girl named Malavatha Purnima who climbed Everest. Then came Santosh Yadav and Premlata Agarwal. Both of them have climbed Everest.
But a memorable event in the history of mountaineering for India was on 29 May 1953. When Sherpa Tensing Norgi, who became the first human who stepped on the summit of Everest, raised his hand and pulled up Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand standing below. Was taken to the highest point in the world. I remember this day very well because it was my birthday on 29th May 1953.
Now return to Iran and Pakistani mountaineers
On Samina and Afsaneh. Human society must have been convinced that these two young women have shown that orthodox people cannot tie the feet of girls. Find as many excuses as you can. Ultimately, the woman has to reach the destination beyond which there is no way.
