किसने पिया कितना ज़हर? छोड़ो, यहाँ आप नहीं रहते।
ये आदमियों की बस्तियाँ हैं, साहब! यहाँ साँप नहीं रहते।
उम्र भर क्या किया, वाकेया, कौन जानेगा!
ज़िन्दगी भर, यहाँ जुर्म के हिसाब नहीं रहते।
ज़िन्दगी सरायफ़ानी है, सफ़र ज़िंदगानी है।
किसी के अक्श पर किसी के छाप नहीं रहते।
लाख पहरे बिठाओ, करोड़ों सुबूत मिटाओ।
बंद घड़े में हरदम छिपे हुए पाप नहीं रहते।
मैंने देखा है क़रीब से अपने माथे की छत।
हर माथे पे लकीरों के खाप नहीं रहते।
क्यों है तवज्जो आसमाँ का, इतना, केसर!
सितारे इतनी ऊँचाई पे अपनेआप नहीं रहते।

There are no shadows of lines on every forehead.
Why is the attention of the sky, so much, saffron!
Stars do not stay at such heights on their own.
