पश्चिम बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी कह चुकीं हैं कि ”यदि एनडीए की ओर से पहले द्रौपदी मुर्मू की उम्मीदवारी के बारे में बता दिया जात तो हम भी राजी हो जाते और सर्वसम्मति से उन्हें चुना जा सकता था। ममता बनर्जी ने द्रौपदी मुर्मू की जीत की संभावनाएं ज्यादा होने की बात भी स्वीकार की।”
बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार ने राजग उम्मीदवार के बारे में कहा, ”हम लोगों को पूरा भरोसा है कि मुर्मू भारी बहुमत से जीतेंगी। यह बहुत खुशी की बात है कि एक आदिवासी महिला देश के सर्वोच्च पद के लिये उम्मीदवार है।” मुख्यमंत्री हेमंत सोरेन का झारखण्ड मुक्ति मोर्चा अब द्रौपदी को वोट देगा जिससे गठबंधन सहयोगी कांग्रेसी पार्टी को शर्मिंदगी उठानी पड़ेगी।
बहुजन समाज पार्टी (बसपा) की अध्यक्ष एवं उत्तर प्रदेश की पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने स्पष्ट किया कि सिर्फ अनुसूचित जनजाति की महिला होने के कारण ही उनकी पार्टी ने द्रौपदी मुर्मू को राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिये समर्थन देने का ऐलान किया है। उनका एक ही विधायक है।
प्रतिद्वंदी यशवंत सिन्हा ने द्रौपदी पर तनिक शकुनि के अंदाज में विवाद उठा दिया। वे बोले कि ”यह महिला प्रत्याशी रबर स्टांप राष्ट्रपति बनेगी।” सिन्हा की घोषणा है कि वे खुद राष्ट्रपति चुने गये तो ”केवल संविधान के प्रति उत्तरदायी रहूंगा।” हालांकि भारत का संविधान गत 70 वर्षों में 108 बार संशोधित हो चुका है। तुलना में अमेरिका का संविधान गत सवा दो सौ वर्षों में केवल 25 बार संशोधित हुआ।
जब 1975 में एमर्जेंसी इंदिरा गांधी ने थोपी थी तो जनाब यशवंत सिन्हाजी कलक्टरी कर रहे थे। सरकारी अफसर थे उस शासन के जो भ्रष्टाचार—विरोधी संघर्ष में जननायकों को जेल में कैद कर रही थी। तब उन्हीं के परिवारजन लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण भी इंदिरा गांधी की जेल में नजरबंद थे।
बाद में इन्हीं जेपी की सिफारिश पर प्रधानमंत्री मोरारजी देसाई ने सिन्हा पर कृपादृष्टि दर्शायी थी। यही सिन्हाजी अब आदिवासी गरीब विधवा द्रौपदी मुर्मू से बेहिचक वचन मांग रहे है कि वे ”नाममात्र” की राष्ट्रपति नहीं रहेंगी। खामोश नहीं रहा करेंगी। मगर जब दस साल मनमोहन सिंह गूंगे रहे, सोनिया की धौंस के चलती रही, तब?
अब जानिये अगर सिन्हा स्वयं राष्ट्रपति बन गये (मुंगेरी लाल के सपने जैसा) तो यशवंतजी क्या—क्या कर देंगे? वे केन्द्रीय संस्थाओं द्वारा विपक्ष को तंग करना बंद करा देंगे। नीक है, सब इसे स्वीकारते हैं। सांप्रदायिकता को रोकेंगे? दुरुस्त है। राज्य सरकारों को डगमायेंगे नहीं। यह भी वाजिब है। मगर इंदिरा गांधी काल का यही सरकारी (84—वर्षीय) नौकर चालीस साल के दौरान तो ”जी हुजूरी” भर करता रहा। कैसा कर्तव्य निभाया?
यशवंत सिन्हा को बैठ जाने के आग्रह के लिये तर्क है, वे कभी भी गंभीर चुनौती देने वाले, प्रत्याशी नहीं रहे। विपक्ष की चौथी पसंद रहे। शरद पवार चतुर थे। हार की प्रतीती हो गयी थी। पलायन कर गये। अधिक फजीहत से बचने के पूर्व यशवंत सिन्हा को संतुष्ट होना चाहिये कि उन्हें आशातीत प्राप्ति तो हो गयी। हशिए पर पड़े इस राजनेता को फोकट में देशव्यापी मीडिया पब्लिसिटी मिल गयी। बड़े—बड़े राजनेताओं से भेंट हो गयी जो अब उनके समर्थक बन बैठे।
बिन रकम खर्चे सिन्हा लाभ पा गये। विपुल चुनावी बजट पा गये। फ्री भारत दर्शन करने का मौका मिल गया। अब उनके राजनीति करने में कुछ ही वर्ष रह गये है। वानप्रस्थ खत्म हो गया। संन्यास का वक्त दस साल पूर्व ही आ गया था। अभी भी देर नहीं है कि सिन्हा साहब रिटायमेंट की घोषणा के लिये। इसमें राष्ट्रहित है। उनका यश भी बना रहेगा।
साहित्य में यश का रंग सफेद, धवल कहा गया है। कवि भूषण ने कहा था कि छत्रपति शिवाजी के अपार यश से तीनों लोकों में सफेदी छा गयी। तब इन्द्र अपने सफेद हाथी ऐरावत को तलाशते रहे। खुद ऐरावत गोरे इन्द्र को खोजता रहा। अत: सारी गोरी चीजें और गोरे लोग खो गये। अब यशवंत को भी यश की तरह गोरे बने रहना चाहिये। पराजय की कालिमा से बचें।

Rival Yashwant Sinha raised a controversy on Draupadi in the style of Shakuni. He said that “this woman candidate will become the rubber stamp president.” Sinha’s declaration that if she herself is elected as the President, “I will be responsible only to the Constitution.” Although the Constitution of India has been amended 108 times in the last 70 years. Is. In comparison, the US Constitution was amended only 25 times in the last two hundred and fifty years.
When the Emergency was imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975, Yashwant Sinhaji was doing the Collectorate. There were government officials of the regime which was imprisoning the Jannayaks in the anti-corruption struggle. Then his family member Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan was also under house arrest in Indira Gandhi’s jail.

The same Sinhaji is now asking for an unflinching promise from the tribal poor widow Draupadi Murmu that she will not be a “nominal” president. Won’t be silent. Now know if Sinha himself becomes the President (like Mungeri Lal’s dream), then what will Yashwantji do? They will stop harassing the opposition by central institutions. Nice, everyone accepts it. But this same government (84-year) servant of Indira Gandhi’s era continued to do “Ji Huzoori” during forty years. How did you fulfill your duty?
There is a rationale for urging Yashwant Sinha to sit down, he has never been a serious challenger, a candidate. Be the fourth choice of the opposition. Sharad Pawar was clever.
